Why Juniper looks this way
Juniper didn't build this herself. Her father, an astronaut, built it for an expedition and forgot where he put the key, and she's the one who ended up inside it. Those two round portholes are still her own eyes, though: always watching, always reading the current before deciding whether to steer through it or just float along.
